iQOO 16 Overview

Design and Display

The back of the phone looks quite different this time. The old square camera block from the iQOO 15 is gone, replaced by a round, porthole-style island with a hexagonal pattern underneath. The iQOO 16 comes in Chasing Light, Legend, and Racing Track. Chasing Light has a holographic finish that shifts as light hits it from different angles. IP68 and IP69 ratings protect it against dust, water immersion, and high-pressure water jets.

The front is where gamers will notice the most. The 6.85-inch 2K AMOLED panel (reportedly a Samsung M16) has a 3168 x 1440 resolution and a 165Hz LTPO refresh rate, so scrolling and fast games look very smooth. Peak local brightness reaches 10,000 nits, with 2,800 nits for full-screen content, which helps under harsh sunlight. It also supports 3,300Hz PWM dimming for comfortable night use, along with wet-hand touch support.

Performance

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Extreme powers the iQOO 16. It is built on TSMC’s 2nm process, with CPU speeds reportedly reaching 5.01GHz. You can pair it with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage. That should keep demanding games, heavy multitasking, and big file transfers running without much trouble.

iQOO has also added its own Q4 gaming chip, which takes over graphics processing and frame interpolation so the main processor carries less load. To keep temperatures down, there is an 8,500mm² vapor chamber, while the Monster Super Core Engine adjusts power use during long sessions. The phone runs OriginOS 7 on top of Android 17, with gaming controls built in.

The rear island holds three 50MP cameras. The main one is an OmniVision OV50Q sensor with OIS, and iQOO claims it collects 79% more light than the iQOO 15. Next to it sits a Sony LYT-600 periscope telephoto with 3x optical zoom and OIS, plus a 50MP ultrawide lens. That makes the iQOO 16 camera setup flexible enough for landscapes, portraits, and group shots.

The telephoto lens is the most useful addition for everyday shooting. It lets you frame distant subjects without relying on digital zoom, which usually softens the image. For selfies and video calls, there is a 32MP front camera. Reports also say the rear cameras can record video at up to 8K, which will appeal to anyone who shoots a lot of clips.

Battery and Connectivity

The 8,400mAh battery is one of the biggest in any flagship right now. It uses fifth-generation silicon-anode technology, which packs more capacity into the same space. Charging is fast too, with 100W wired and 40W wireless support. For long gaming sessions or heavy daily use, this mix of capacity and speed is hard to find on other premium phones.

On the connectivity side, the phone covers 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC, USB-C 3.2, and an infrared blaster. Security comes from an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor. Stereo speakers deliver louder, fuller sound, and the X+Z dual-axis linear motor gives more precise vibration feedback. iQOO’s Q-flex touch technology also aims to cut gaming latency.
