Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra Launched with 6.9″ AMOLED Privacy Display & Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5

Galaxy Unpacked on February 25 gave Samsung fans plenty to get excited about and the Galaxy S26 Ultra turned out to be the highlight of the entire event. Alongside the standard Galaxy S26 and the Galaxy S26 Plus, the Ultra sits at the top of the lineup as the most feature-packed option of the three. It’s not a complete overhaul, but there’s enough here to make it the best Ultra Samsung has put out so far. Display & Design

The phone has a 6.9-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with adaptive 1–120Hz refresh and up to 2,600 nits of peak brightness. Corning Gorilla Armor 2 covers the front and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 handles the back. At 7.9mm thick and 214g, it’s the slimmest and lightest Ultra Samsung has made. The frame has moved from titanium to Armor Aluminum and the rounded corners now match the S26 and S26 Plus, so the whole lineup finally looks like it belongs together. Privacy Display

Built directly into the panel at the pixel level, this is the feature Samsung is leading with. The display uses two types of pixels, wide-firing ones for normal use and narrow-firing ones that send light almost straight forward. Switch Privacy Display on and anyone not looking at the screen head-on sees nothing. You can set it to work on specific apps, your lock screen PIN entry or just notification pop-ups. It works in both portrait and landscape. The catch is that brightness and resolution take a hit when it’s running across the full screen. Even with it turned off, viewing angles are slightly worse than the S25 Ultra, which comes down to those narrow pixels always being part of the display. The new 10-bit panel and ProScaler upscaling help keep things sharp during regular use.

Chipset & Performance

The phone runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, a version tuned specifically for Samsung’s flagship devices. It’s built to handle demanding tasks without breaking a sweat, whether that’s running heavy games or pushing Galaxy AI features. CPU speeds are up around 19%, GPU output is about 24% better with ray tracing now supported, and the NPU is 39% faster for AI tasks. Vulkan-optimized games benefit from better light and shadow rendering, while ray tracing brings more realistic colors and reflections to supported titles, all backed by the custom Snapdragon chip.

On the thermal side, the vapor chamber has been redesigned to work within the thinner frame. Samsung has also improved the thermal interface material, and together these changes push heat dissipation 21% further than last year. So even during long gaming sessions or back-to-back AI tasks, the phone stays cooler and keeps performance steady. RAM sits at 12GB on the 256GB and 512GB models, going up to 16GB on the 1TB version. Camera

The camera setup looks familiar on paper, 200MP main wide, 50MP ultrawide, 10MP 3x telephoto and 50MP 5x periscope, but the aperture upgrades change things in a meaningful way. The main camera now opens to f/1.4 from f/1.7, letting in around 47% more light. The 5x periscope goes from f/3.4 to f/2.9, which brings roughly 37% more brightness to longer shots. Low-light video looks noticeably cleaner, with better noise handling and more natural skin tones. Super Steady Video Mode

Horizontal Lock is a new addition inside Super Steady mode this year. It uses data from the gyroscope and accelerometer to correct up to 360 degrees of rotational movement while recording. Bluetooth support is still absent for the second year running, so the S Pen can’t be used as a remote shutter or presentation clicker like it once could.

Galaxy AI & Other Features

The S26 Ultra ships with One UI 8.5 on Android 16 and comes with seven years of OS and security updates. Galaxy AI has gotten more useful this time around. Now Nudge is probably the most practical new addition, it picks up on what’s on your screen and brings up relevant information, like showing your calendar when someone texts asking if you’re free on Saturday. Photo Assist now takes plain-text prompts to edit photos straight from the Gallery app and the results look cleaner than earlier Galaxy AI tools. Audio Eraser has been extended to work inside third-party apps like YouTube and Netflix. Call Screening is new to Galaxy this year and Bixby has been rebuilt as a proper conversational assistant with Gemini and Perplexity tied in for handling tasks in the background.

The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is now available in Nepal starting at NPR 212,999 for the 12GB/256GB model. Pre-bookings are open, and Samsung is giving NPR 10,000 off on the 12/256GB version and NPR 15,000 off on the 12/512GB and 16GB/1TB models.

Samsung is also including 1 year of breakage insurance with every pre-booking. Deliveries will begin after March 13th.

Conclusion

The S26 Ultra doesn’t shake things up completely but it gets better in the areas that actually matter, cameras, charging, heat management and the new Privacy Display. The aperture upgrades show up in real photos, the slimmer build feels good in hand and the Privacy Display is something no other phone is doing at this level. If you’re coming from an S23 Ultra or older, the upgrade is worth it. S25 Ultra owners can probably wait unless faster charging or Privacy Display is something they specifically want.
